**Position: Camp Director**

**Salary: $700 to $800 per week (Depending on Experience)**

**Duration: 8 Weeks – 6 weeks on-site work with additional work required in advance of the camp staff training week**

**Camp Schedule:**

– Camp Preparation: Occurs before the first week of staff training

– Staff Training: June 30 – July 5

– Camp Season: July 7 – August 10

– Reports to: Board of Directors’ Camping Program Committee

**Position Purpose:**

To lead an immersive camp program, fostering a connection with nature and instilling physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental dimensions of life. The camp offers diverse activities, including swimming, canoeing, aquatic games, wildlife exploration, and environmental education.

**Qualifications:**

– Minimum age of 25 or possession of a bachelor’s degree to comply with NYS Department of Health regulations

– Experience in leading and supervising groups of children/teens in recreational or school settings

– Driver’s License

– First Aid Certification (Responding to Emergencies required by staff training week)

– Current CPR/AED certification

– Successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation

 

**Essential Job Functions:**

– Ensure compliance with Cayuga County and New York State Health Department requirements

– Supervise Program Director, Cook, Health Director, Waterfront Director, counselors, and other staff

– Live on-site from staff training commencement through the end of the program

– Collaborate with Program Director/Waterfront Director to oversee staff, campers, and implement activities

– Maintain clear communication with relevant stakeholders to proactively address concerns

– Oversee camper check-in and ensure proper documentation

– Uphold safety and educational procedures; provide training for program equipment usage

– Manage camp facilities and equipment, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and good repair

– Oversee health and safety of campers and staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures

– Collaborate with Board of Directors’ Camping Program Committee to meet camp goals

– Support a community-oriented camp culture emphasizing acceptance, cooperation, and empathy

– Embrace and appreciate diversity in interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public

 

**Time Commitment:**

The Director is engaged for 2 weeks of camp preparation, 1 week of staff training, 5 weeks of children’s camping program, and end-of-season wrap-up.

**Relationships:**

– Maintain clear and regular communication with Program Director, staff, and Camping Program Committee

– Work closely with the Camp Registrar to ensure timely receipt of camper paperwork

– Serve as Camp Gregory’s representative to parents and the public

– Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, and supervisory skills

– Creativity, flexibility, and ability to motivate staff and campers

– Ability to set and meet deadlines

– Outgoing personality with demonstrated ability to relate to campers, staff, and parents

– Physical ability to live and work in a rustic camp setting and address emergencies

**Physical Aspects of the Position:**

– Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups

– Observe and assess camper and staff behavior

– Physical requirements include movement across camp-related terrain, leading program activities, and setting up recreational equipment.
