June 2021-Letter from our Executive Director

Tracy Verrier
Tracy Verrier, Executive Director

It’s been so nice to start seeing many of you in person over the last couple of weeks. This month we held both the Annual Chamber Awards Luncheon and a Business After Five at Drifters on Owasco in person and with great attendance. While we are still doing some programming virtually, we are pleased to bring networking back in the more traditional way.

Once again, Springside did a wonderful job hosting the Annual Awards Luncheon, and we so appreciate the event sponsors that made the whole thing feasible. The sponsors were: headline sponsor Five Star Bank, bronze sponsor AmeriCU, and Community Leadership Award sponsor Cuddy Financial Services, and diamond sponsors Tompkins Trust, Lyons National Bank, and diamond media sponsor The Citizen. Visit www.cayugacountychamber.com/awards to see interviews with each of the award winners and video of Melody Smith Johnson’s inspirational keynote address. All of the awardees contribute to our community in different ways, but all make Cayuga County a great place to live, work and play. This year, we were excited to recognize the following individuals and organizations:

  • Phyllis Goldman Award: Melody Smith Johnson, Divine Coverings and Beverly L. Smith Empowerment Initiative
  • Terri Bridenbecker Young Professional Award: Jeffrey Ludwig, Seward House Museum
  • Community Leadership Award: Ginny Kent, Cayuga Community College Foundation
  • Small Business Less Than 5 Years: Cayuga Drug & Alcohol Testing
  • Small Business 5+ Years: Nash’s Framing & Art
  • Business Leader Award: O’Hara Machinery
  • Non-Profit of the Year Award: Booker T. Washington Community Center

The Citizen is also working hard with us once again to produce this year’s Community Guide and Member Directory. To ensure that you are reflected correctly in the directory, please check your listing in our online directory (www.cayugacountychamber.com/directory) to make sure that your name, address, phone, website, and category are all correct. You can send any updates to admin@cayugacountychamber.com. You can also send photos, a logo, or additional description if you’d like to spruce up your listing.

We also have some great informational and networking events coming up, so keep an eye on www.cayugacountychamber.com/events.

  • June 29 – Educational Webinar: Marijuana in the Workplace: Understanding the MRTA & How it Affects your Business. Register here.
  • July 16 – 28th Annual Chamber Cup Golf Tournament at Highland. Coast Physical Therapy is aiming for a 3rd year with the trophy, but maybe this year is YOUR year! Register here.
