Thomas Slaughter’s new book unveils the inner lives of the Sewards, tracing their joys and sorrows as the nation grappled with deepening divisions on its path to the Civil War. Slaughter directed the Seward Family Digital Archive Project and is Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Rochester.
