POSITION TITLE:  Communications Coordinator

REPORTS TO:         Executive Director

SCHEDULE:             Part-time (22.5 hours per week)


The Communications Coordinator serves as a welcome center for Cayuga Strategic Solutions and its affiliate organizations, namely the Cayuga Economic Development Agency and Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce along with their programs and contracted partners.  The position staffs the reception, provides a support role for organizational events, and is a key member of the marketing and public relations team.  Most outbound communications such as social media, website updates, email marketing, press releases, newsletters, and promotional material will be managed by this position. This position will work with the Marketing Coordinator and Chamber Manager on these tasks. Demonstrating success in this position will be achieved through successful marketing initiatives, a positive public image of the affiliate organizations based upon reception and communication activities, and strong customer satisfaction feedback for all organizations and their affiliate programs.


  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills are required for this position
  • Experience managing an active social media presence and email marketing
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times


  • Above average computer skills that include the ability to send/receive email messages, navigate the internet, edit websites, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform advanced word processing.
  • Ability to use software programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. This position also currently utilizes Buffer and Canva for social media management and Constant Contact for email marketing.
  • General office equipment is used such as a computer, printer, photocopier, telephone, fax machine, scanner, and calculator.


Cayuga Strategic Solutions (“CSS”) is a joint venture of and the employing entity for the Cayuga Economic Development Agency and Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce Foundation (“affiliate organizations”). CSS currently has a team of ten working to engage, educate, and support the Cayuga County business community with the goal of creating a more vibrant business environment that encourages growth and provides a variety of opportunities to all residents and visitors.   • Reception
    • Answer incoming calls for all affiliate organizations and direct as appropriate
    • Act as welcome center for all incoming appointments or walk ins for all affiliate organizations
    • Manage reception area for cleanliness, attractiveness, and manage all informational posting for member and/or community organizations
    • Sorting and distribution of incoming mail for all affiliate organizations and tenants
    • Schedule conference room utilization for all affiliate organizations and members/community groups
  • Communication
    • Create and schedule Constant Contact email blasts for all affiliate organizations for events notifications and other outgoing communications (frequency and timing will be based on established marketing plans)
    • Work in coordination with the Marketing and PR team to facilitate any distribution of marketing materials or public relations pieces to appropriate audiences, including via websites and social media platforms
    • Maintain communication databases (email databases, membership database, mailing lists, etc.) for accuracy and ease of access and produce pdf, excel, and printed labels of the lists as requested by staff/members
  • Event Support
    • Maintain master list of all organizations and affiliate programs’ events and seminars
    • In coordination with key personnel, carryout marketing for all affiliate organizations’ events (e-blasts, press release announcements, social media, etc.)
    • Schedule and coordinate all ribbon cuttings with Chamber Manager and Ambassadors Council
    • Handle event registration and name tag printing for all affiliate organization events
    • Assist with attendee registration and other staffing needs on-site at events
  • Other
    • Perform all other duties as assigned
