DESCRIPTION:With the conclusion of the Korean War a stalemate\, the world’s two superpowers battled in every possible arena other than direct conflict. These decades of competition became known as the “Cold War.” Quite possibly the most consequential frontline was the one that stretched out into space\, which began with the Soviet Union’s launch of the first man made satellite in 1957 and met its climax with the United States’ successful journey to the Moon and back in 1969. \n  \nNow it’s your turn to live this major moment in science history! Create a team with your family or a few close friends and form your own competing nation\, design your own flag\, and begin the race to space. \n  \nOn the Cayuga Museum side of the West End Arts Campus\, bring the family to create your own straw and bottle rockets for a fun simulation of the “Space Race.” This activity is in conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibit exploring the local impact of the Korean War.
