SUMMARY:Retaining Diverse Talent
DESCRIPTION:Many organizations are asking what they can do to respond to bias\, discrimination\, and workplace inequities in the current moment. Recent social and racial justice movements have challenged organizations to look within to build more diverse\, inclusive workplaces and ultimately\, more equitable communities. \nThis series is intended to educate\, guide\, and inspire participants to learn how to embrace diversity\, equity\, and inclusion as fundamental values – and how to reflect them in the operations of their organizations. Separate registration for each session. Discounts available if you register for all three sessions (use promo codes as directed). \nJune 17\, 2021 \n9-11am \nThird in a three-part series\, Retaining Diverse Talent will examine how workplaces can create a culture of inclusion and belonging to retain a diverse workforce. Participants will learn how negative workplace climates\, biased supervisory processes\, and minimal opportunities for advancement work together to create a revolving door for historically underrepresented employees. Participants will learn how to make data-informed adjustments to increase the retention of diverse employees and to develop inclusive practices that give underrepresented employees a greater sense of belonging. \nREGISTER HERE \nAbout the Presenter: Paula Ioanide \nAs a white\, Romanian-American woman and mother with one foot rooted in community and the other in academia\, Paula protects and defends the former with the latter; embodying a soul-stirring paradigm shift towards empathy\, equity\, and action. Paula is an associate professor of comparative race and ethnicity studies at the Center for the Study of Culture\, Race\, and Ethnicity at Ithaca College. Her research focuses on the role of public feelings and implicit bias in perpetuating systemic racism and sexism. She earned her PhD in History of Consciousness from UC Santa Cruz. She has spent her career working with a thought-leading global community toward racial and gender equity. https://risetoequity.com

SUMMARY:Belonging to the ages: the aftermath of the Lincoln assassination
DESCRIPTION:The night of April 14th\, 1865 is engrained in historic memory. From the coordinated attack that led to President Lincoln being shot and John Wilkes Booth making his way across the stage of Ford’s Theatre as he escaped DC\, the vicious knife attack on Secretary of State William H. Seward\, leaving him wounded along with four other victims\, to the debated involvement of figures such as Mary Surratt and Dr. Samuel Mudd\, the conspiracy targeting important officials of the United States Federal Government remains a point of intrigue for historical researchers and museum visitors alike. But what of the aftermath?  \nJoin representatives from  Ford’s Theatre\, Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site\, the Dr. Mudd Museum\, the Seward House Museum and the Surratt House Museum for a virtual panel as they discuss the subsequent capture\, trial by war tribunal\, and execution of four of the accused.
