DESCRIPTION:CELEBRATE AUBURN’S URBAN FOREST BY VIEWING INSPIRATIONAL PAINTINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE CITY’S TREES AT MULTIPLE VENUES \nAuburn’s first-ever art show devoted to community trees will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception on Friday\, September 2\, at the Equal Rights Heritage Center in downtown Auburn\, New York \nSeptember 2 – October 30\, 2022 \nEqual Rights Heritage Center  |  Schweinfurth Art Center \nWillard Memorial Chapel  |  Cayuga Museum  |  Cafe 108 \nWhite Oak on Grover Street by Tom Hussey\nThe Auburn Community Forest Art Show is sponsored by the City of Auburn Department of Engineering Services to support the drafting of the city’s very first Community Forest Management Plan.  Over the past few months\, Auburn residents have engaged in a dialogue about the state of the local forest to shape a vision for how to take care of the street\, park\, and open-space trees over the next quarter century. \n“We need more than statistics\, charts\, and maps to understand Auburn’s urban forest\,” said Walt Aikman\, the forester helping the City of Auburn draft the management plan.  “Our trees absorb a lot of carbon\, drink up a lot of storm water\, and help keep us cool in summer\, and the majesty and magic they have grounds our history and motivates us to plan for a sustainable future.” \nAs part of the community forest planning process\, the city invited local and regional artists to contribute their impressions of trees growing in Auburn\, and present them in such a way to become a vital part of the final document.  Auburn’s artist community responded\, and works from the following celebrated talents include: \nJennifer Duke Anstey \nGail Demi \nJoshua Ely \nTom Hussey \nArthur Hutchinson \nPeggy Pelletier \nRhonda Stanford-Zahn \nTim Tucker \nThe September First Friday Auburn Tree Art Show and Opening features a range of fascinating and powerful interpretations of some of Auburn’s most celebrated trees.  From the White oaks of the South Street corridor to the Cayuga Museum’s Ginkgo tree\, talented artists generously shared their time to draw\, paint\, and photograph many of Auburn’s most celebrated tree treasures\, as well as some of the lesser known trees that populate the city’s streets and parks. \nThe forest management planning effort in Auburn is made possible with the funding support of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Urban and Community Forestry Program.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Art4Skarts 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Skaneateles Area Arts Council will present an evening of art\, music\, and friends – The 5th Art4Skarts Juried Art Show and Sale. An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday evening\, September 15th\, from 5 until 8pm at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art in Auburn\, New York. The exhibit and sale will continue during museum hours until Saturday\, September 24th. \nOur featured local artist\, Barbara Delmonico\, is an accomplished painter working in a variety of mediums. We honor her for outstanding talent and for her dedication to the arts. \nArtists within a 15-mile radius of Skaneateles\, have submitted their artwork including painting\, sculpture\, metal\, glass\, wood and fiber. The entries were juried by Regina Lewis-Middleton\, an artist and textile conservator. \nAll of the artwork is for sale. With so many talented artists in the community\, it will be an exciting event for all. \nTickets for the Opening Reception are $60 per person with proceeds going to the Skarts Grants Program. They may be purchased at: art4skarts.org\, or at the door the day of the event. \nThe Mission of the Skaneateles Area Arts Council (Skarts) is to celebrate the visual and performing arts by creating an environment where cultural activity thrives in our community. The grants program of Skarts will benefit from funds raised\, going towards arts-related programs in the area. Since its inception\, Skarts has awarded grants to over 90 artists and art organizations in the community.

Director Bill Daugherty conceived and produced this revue originally in New York City.\nThe casting is open and inclusive for ages 18 and up. We are interested in actors who sing and are storytellers at heart!\nPlease prepare a brief musical theater song or another song that shows who you are as an artist. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Donahue will present a recital of classical and popular music performed on organ\, piano and electronic keyboard. \n​ \nBorn and raised in Auburn\, Donahue has played the keyboard since he was 7. Donahue describes himself as self-taught\, though he’s also taken master classes with teachers like Anthony Newman\, a renowned musician well-known for his recordings of the work of J.S. Bach on harpsichord and pipe organ. The dentist counts Newman among his biggest musical influences. \n​ \nThis event is $10 per person. The Chapel is handicap accessible through its north entrance off Seymour Street. Tickets are available at Willard Chapel\, 17 Nelson Street\, Auburn\, NY during our regular hours Wednesday-Friday 10 AM – 4 PM or call 315-252-0339 or at the door on the day of the concert.

DESCRIPTION:By popular demand\, historian Robert May makes his fourth return to Auburn for a fascinating new lecture on Seward’s efforts to fight slavery. Drawing on his book\, Slavery\, Race\, and Conquest in the Tropics\, May will discuss how Seward fought not only against the growth of the slave power in the U.S.\, but also southern visions of creating a vast slaveholding empire abroad. This event will take place at the Equal Rights Heritage Center from 7pm-8pm\, tickets are $10 for Museum Members and $15 for Non-Members and are available for purchase on the Seward House Museum website.
