Mr. Parker was the quartet’s final guest pianist\, and a backstage conversation with first violinist Martin Beaver and cellist Clive Greensmith led to the Montrose Trio’s creation. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 11\, 2022\, the Seward House Museum will host a public arts\nworkshop at the Equal Rights Heritage Center\, 25 South Street\, in downtown Auburn from 1 to 3 p.m. \nTitled “Cultural Convergences: An Artistic Workshop Into Seward’s Visit to Syria\,” the workshop\nwill be led by Syrian artist Nada Odeh and will engage participants to learn about Middle Eastern\ncultures and William Seward’s visit to the Middle East and Syria. There will be a brief presentation\nfollowed by hands-on art experiences. Participants will brainstorm ideas for a mural that reflects\nMiddle Eastern cultures in New York State. The mural will be a traveling piece of art that will be\nexhibited in several select locations for public viewing. This event is free and open to the public. If you would like to register\, please call the Seward House Museum (315) 252-1283. Materials will be provided. \nAbout the Artist\nNada Odeh is a Syrian artist\, activist\, humanitarian\, and a modern-day poet. She was born and raised\nin Damascus and lived in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates before coming to the U.S. in\n2013. She established a project known as ‘Nada’s Picassos’\, which began in Damascus but has moved\nto Dubai\, Michigan\, and currently New York State. The medium she works in is acrylics on canvas and\nArabic miniatures; Middle Eastern colors and small details of her heritage influence her art. The key\ntheme in her artwork is Syrian refugees in camps and the Syrian people. Recently\, she has focused\nmore on displaced Syrian women in exile. Nada got her M.A. in Museum Studies from Syracuse\nUniversity and her B.A. in Fine Arts from Damascus University. Nada has exhibited her art in\nDamascus\, Dubai\, New York City\, Detroit\, Toledo\, Tiffin\, Washington D.C.\, Syracuse\, Albany\, and\nAuburn\, New York. She lives and works in Syracuse\, New York. \nThis workshop is made possible by a grant from New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) in\ncollaboration with New York Folklore society that was presented to artist Nada Odeh.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth at the Schweinfurth
DESCRIPTION:Quinn A. Hunter\, whose exhibition “Here/Hear” is on display at the Schweinfurth Art Center\, will give a talk about her work June 18\, 2022\, as part of the City of Auburn’s Juneteeth Celebration. Her exhibit focuses on erasure of Black history in both the South and the North. Hunter’s exhibit contains work from two recent series. In “I See You Now\, I Hear You Then\,” she presents chandeliers and rugs she weaved by hand out of hair\, referencing antebellum plantations that ignore their slave-owning past. In “Paradise: The Myth of a Liberal North\,” she examines the destruction of two Black neighborhoods in Detroit that were destroyed to build a highway. \nAlso on display are “In God’s Voice: A Celebration of the spirituality of Harriet Tubman” by Vanessa Johnson and “Excellence in Fibers VII.”
