Central NY has funding allocated for programming to move people out of poverty through the Alliance for Economic Inclusion initiative.  We will be holding an information session on May 21, 2019 at 2:00pm in the 6th Floor Chambers, Cayuga County Office Building, 160 Genesee Street, Auburn, New York to discuss the 2019 funding opportunities and how to participate.  You are welcome to share this invitation with others who may have interest but please RSVP to Robin Sheehan to be sure we have ample seating. Robin.Sheehan@dfa.state.ny.us.

Agenda:

  • Establishment of the Alliance for Economic Inclusion and initial activities
  • 2018 Request for Proposal  process & outcomes
  • Efforts to monitor and improve for 2019
  • 2019 RFP

The previous awarded projects cover a broad range of issues and can be broken into six categories:

  • Post-Secondary Education
  • Neighborhood Revitalization
  • Access to Startup Funding
  • Early-Childhood Education
  • Transportation
  • Workforce Development

More than half of the projects awarded focus on workforce development which remains a significant barrier to moving people out of poverty. The region has jobs available, but lacks a trained workforce to fill those jobs. Similarly, studies show access to early childhood education lead to “sizeable benefits” in academic achievement, behavioral and emotional competencies, health and success in the labor market.

Almost 20% of the projects awarded focus on early childhood education.
